Moving
However you move, you are going to pay to transport every single item. You pay by the pound, by the square foot, or by the back pains. So it behooves you to sort through your belongings and only move the right things.
You'll need to put most things into boxes for the move, so get a few extra boxes for sorting out unwanted items.
Label your boxes in large letters, with a large marker, according to where they go, kitchen, master bed, bath, den, living, etc., and a couple extra boxes, labeled trash and charity. As you go through all the items in each room, ask yourself the follwing questions:
- Have you used this item in the last year?
- Will you use it in the next year?
- Does it have sentimental value?
- Is there a possibility you'll need it in the future? (be careful with this one, pack rats usually answer yes)
If you answer yes to any of these questions, put the item in the box for where it should go in the new home - not necessarily the box for the room in which you found it.
After you've gone through the whole house, you need to dispose of the boxes of trash and charity stuff. You might want to have a garage sale or you might want to just give it to charity. The important thing is to not take this clutter to your new home.
