Portuguese woman fakes kidnapping to be with lover, faces jail term
LISBON (AFP) - A Portuguese woman who sneaked away from her husband during a movie show so that she could visit a lover faces a possible year's jail after she justified her disappearance with a claim she had been kidnapped, media reported. The 21-year-old wife told her husband she was going to pop into a nearby shop on Saturday night during the movie intermission, but she never returned, the private television channel TVI reported. At around 6 a.m. the next morning the woman called her husband, saying two men from eastern Europe had taken her by force from the shopping centre and had taken her money, bank card and mobile phone. When the husband later picked up his wife in the centre of Faro, where she claimed to have just been released, he insisted they file a complaint with the police. But while being interviewed, the woman broke down and confessed she had made the story up so that she could be with her lover.My Sardonic Thoughts
