Gang Storms Military Hospital, Robs Chopper
SAO PAULO (Reuters) - A group of heavily armed men stormed a military hospital in Brazil's largest city to rob a helicopter that was bringing money to a bank on the hospital grounds, police said on Tuesday. ``Apparently, they used an ambulance to get to the hospital without awaking suspicions," a police spokesman said. He said a gang of around 15 men, armed with AK-47 assault rifles and wearing bullet-proof jackets, overpowered guards at the entrance of the General Hospital of Sao Paulo on Monday, took the money from the helicopter and made away with the haul, firing shots into the air. No one was hurt, and local media said one attacker had been apprehended. The sum stolen from Banco do Brazil affiliate was not disclosed. Violent crime is rampant in Brazil's big cities and bank holdups, often accompanied by deadly shootouts, happen almost on a daily basis. ``There is little doubt that they knew about the helicopter and the money," the spokesman said.My Sardonic Thoughts
- Duh! What was your first clue?
- Obviously the spokesman works for Military Intelligence...
- But the real question I have here is this... Why was a Helicopter delivering money to a Military Hospital?
- Is this some new way of laundering money?
- Is the "bank on hospital grounds" meant to be safer because it's next to a hospital?
- Is there a large cash business done by the hospital that it needs a bank?
